PHOTOS FROM OUR FIRST YEAR: Rubiks Cube Party: April 12th. Our First nite of nites at 'the gaff' was themed Rubiks Cube. Come in all 6 colours of the cube, swap clothes and become one colour. Some interesting exchanges went on, even from the bar locals who were not dressed for it. Von was the pick being the first to one colour. Jumper Presentation: April 8th. Sydney Swans Jared Crouch and Kristin Thornton came along, inspired us with their words of wisdom, and presented our guernseys. Great night, and the first time the Irish version of the AFL jersey was seen. Sydney St Pats Parade: March 21st. Our first public outing as a team. We march up George St with our banners and showed the world (well the irish world in Sydney) that we are here. The girls continued the day with some interesting dancing near the front of the stage. Cocktail Launch: February 21st. The launch of a cocktail named after us, and created by us at the Sydney RSL A tasty drink, in our colours of green and blue, and with a touch of kiwi - of course. The glass is topped of with the sydney opera house shaped garnish. Usually $6 and very yummy. The Gaff bus picked us up for a long, long night of celebrating.
We came, we saw, and in many ways we conquered. here are some pics of the girls in action in their debut season.
USA FREEDOM vs SWAFL ROOKIES: August 8th. The USA womens AFL team came downunder to play a few matches, the first against a team of first year players from Sydney, and featuring a bunch of shamrock players. Final score USA 2-6-18, SWAFL 4-9-33. Our Jenny and Woody kicked goals, Rissy set one up, Lara was outstanding on half back flank, and Una and Woody were best on ground as picked by the yanks.
Beach Training Sessions: Jan 09 - March 09. Plenty has been done on the sand to practice/learn tackling, and work on our running/strength. Great way to start the morning, hungover or not, and finish with a yummy brunch at the end.
Pre Swafl Times: 18th October 2008. Before we played AFL, most of us were in the gaelic Compromise rules team, where we beat the SWAFL compromise team, 14-49, in the inaugural Irish Australians Cup.
